Our nation has been experiencing an increase in the number of opiate related deaths. Communities have banned together in attempts to prevent this situation from getting worse. In Knoxville, we see organizations grouping with law enforcement to formulate a plan of attack.
The Metro Drug Coalition has multiple programs in place to promote awareness and prevention. Medical professionals are steadily becoming aware that they hold a key to prevention within their pen and script pad. Law enforcement and legislation have formed a Recovery Court and placed a program in play that will offer treatment to inmates utilizing the once a month injection Vivitrol.
Together these efforts are sure to make a difference. Making the community aware that there is an epidemic and offering education on prevention and where to turn for treatment are steps in the right direction. Knoxville has hope, together we can make a difference!
